Default I think my rear is toast

On my way into work today I started getting a slight clunking feeling as I was coming to a stop, well needless to say when I started to go again when the light turned green it had a slight clunk as well when taking off. After about 10 feet slight clunking turned into hard clunking and I was pulling over and towing it home. My car is a 98 Z28 with the stock 10 bolt and 3:73 gears which have been in for a while...to be honest now is not the time for a 12 bolt or a 9 inch for me. I have a rearend out of a 1988 IROC camaro and was wondering if I could use the entire rearend and just switch over my braking system. If not could I use any of the internals to repair mine? I have not taken mine apart yet so I can not tell you exactly what is wrong. The car will still move but it makes a lot of noise...Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to use the internals, but don't use the whole thing as it is wider then a 4th gen axle. So I guess you couldn't use the axle shafts, but you could use the gears and diff.

It looks like i broke a few teeth on the pinion and the ring gear...looks like I will be going back to the old set of 3:23's.

Check the yoke of hte driveshaft. If your driveshaft yoke broke, it sounds very harsh like your riding on rims, no tires.

This will be the 3rd time I'm posting this, but look into the last 2 issues of High Performance Pontiac. 2 articles on building your 10bolt to handle 425 rwhp for under $600, if you want to save money and buy time.
