Default Gears...4.10's

What kind of trap/mph improvement would I see with 4.10's in an otherwise BONE STOCK 6-speed LS1 F-bod? any personal experiences?

I posted a similair question while I was having my 4.10s put in. I got numbers from all over the place. Some guys reported as much as .5 tenths being shaved off, and one guy said .03 tenths . I think the average is .3-.4. I did my clutch and gears at the same time, and all I can say is DAAAAMMMNNNN!!!! I had a $244 ticket within 10 minutes of picking the car up.

4.10s aren't going to make the rear any weaker, it just greatly increases the chances of an all ready weak 10-bolt snapping. For this very reason I am a *****, and therefore have no track times to tell you how much 4.10s helped. Sorry.

Try posting this questions in the gear section if you haven't allready, that's what I did and eventually got quite a few responses.

Actually that is untrue, 4:10's put ALOT more stress on the rear and make it ALOT more likely to break, If you race alot dont bother just get a new rear, but for street use it will be fine, just dont put sticky tires and you should be fine

around the same mph, but a lower et...if you can drive. On street tires..its really hard to hook up. When i hit the track in my car. I spin trhough first, 2nd and a lil in 3rd. 4.10...I couldn't imagine how much worse it would be. This is on street tires, m6, lid +catback. If your gonna do 4.10s..you might(I know you don't want to mod) put in a built rear, 12bolt, 9 inch, dana 60...ect. Your spending 200-300 on gears, plus install for another 400 or so. A new rear is 1900-2300 depending on options. You'll be forking out more up front, but more than likely, with teh mods your gonna do...You won't break a 12bolt or 9inch...so its well worth it. Thats what I'm saving up for right now.

plus this 4.10s have thinner teeth, more likely to break your ring and pinion.

dont let the fact that 4.10s are going to destroy your rear scare you. the 10-bolt is a weak rear-end and everyone knows that, and chances are with sticky tires at the track even with the stock 3.42s, your going to eventually break your 10-bolt. yes going to a bigger gear will increase the chance, and speed up the destruction process but either way its going to happen sometime with a sticky tire. if you take your car to the track alot, i would not recommened getting 4.10s, but there are TONS of people who daily drive their car with 4.10s (myself included) on street tires that have had no problems with a bigger gear. and god are they fun for daily driving.

no...it varies largely on every car, ditto, no.

if your doing headers..and that is it..you might aswell get a tune becasue you'll see a decent gain from that 10rwhp or so..with header..more than likely more. Headers will(usually..not always) make your car run really rich. Which will kill your mpg..also not letting you gain all the power you should. A tune will make your car run better and give you more power. You need a ory or a catted y, but if your going that far..you might as well get some true duals dumped at the axle. Don't you like how modding just sucks you right in...lol.

4.10's rock, but don't waste one dime doing anything to a 10 bolt. Gears make it feel like a diffrent animal, but wait until you can do it right in a 12 bolt or 9".

I struggled a little when ordering my 12 bolt, between 3.73's and the 4.11's. I had 4.10's in my 10 bolt and only lost 2 mpg. I knew I wasn't going to FI or spray with this motor or my next, so the 4.11's put me closer to redline in the 1/4 mile. I was affraid of getting the 3.73's and missing the 4.10's in the end.

I drive hwy also--so 373's are better...gas here is mucho$$$$$...although it is about still $3.50 gallon---[canadian gallon--which is 1/5 larger than American gallon][our dollar is about 15 cents less now or something]

I drive hwy alot also, I have 123,000 on my O2. I have been to Ohio to SoCal and back and to Colorado and back since getting the Moser. I get an average of 25 mpg on road trips with the cruise set on 80 mph. I run about 2100-2200 rpm in 6th going 80 mph. I see that the new Mosers are getting the truetrac posi, last year when I got mine the Eaton was the street posi of choice. My Moser 12 bolt has 33 spline axles, HD eaton posi, 4.11 Pro street gears, ABS, 1350 yoke, T/A stud girdle/cover. It bites like a mother compared to the 10 bolt.
We finally got a break on gas prices back here, I paid $2.35 a gal. for 93 oct. this week. This summer it was up to $3.19 a gal.
