richmond whine
everything was set correctly pinion bearinbg pre-load 24 inch/lbs, backlash .007-.008" , and gear pattern/depth couldn't of been better. But i still get whine not so bad 1-4th gear but on the highway is substantial. Anyone expierience same thing? a
also should i change gear oil after 500 miles, and when you think it would be safe to "beat" on it?
thanks
Good luck.
FYI: The FAQ is just a guide line. I have done gear sets that called for a specific lash, but in the housing they were going into... it turned out quite different all together. The old rule of thumb is 0.001" for every inch of ring gear diameter.... but even that is a guide line to get you close.
I would step up to a straight weight 140 oil as well, when you get to an oil change in the differential.

The whine from my Richmond is annoying !! Especially on the freeway.
Accelarating from 1-4 not so much, but once on the freeway it irritates me. I used the GM Differential Fluid and an additive they gave me.
Im thinking about stepping up to the 140 oil.
I plan to service it with the Schaffer #209A 140wt oil since I need to get the synthetic out of it.I ran it since it came with the gears and install kit but after researching it realized that was rather dumb. The car has sat all summer since I am about to finish up my T56 swap,I just hope the synthetic didn't eat me Eaton up since it has been sitting
