3.73 Rearend Question
3.73 Rearend Question Got a 98 z28. It had the stock rear end gears in it. I did some burnouts and brake torque's and the rearend started making a whining noise. I then figured.. I'd just order a rebuild kit on the rearend and upgrade anyway. I went from 3.23 ratio to 3.73. I got the complete kit.. ring and pinion kit which included the shims, crush sleeve, pinion seal, all bearings, etc. I had a local school rebuild the rearend. They were honest and said they haven't rebuilt that many. I think they didn't measure something right or something. Everytime I decel it has a whining sound to it, and after its warmed up and I put it into gear it makes a "clunk" in the rearend... It's much better sounding than before.. that's for sure.. but I got all new parts in the rearend and wanted it to not be noisey. They said the backlash was really good they set. I've drove it with this noise for like 1500 miles - 2k miles so far.. at most.. what you guys think?
