Default 9" Howls and vibrates...

I have 4.56 gears with a locker and it howls/whines pretty bad. I also have a fibration at 50+. Is this normal? It is all new stuff. New rear and driveshaft. I am planning on going to the track here soon and want to be sure everything is OK before I rip it. Also, how many quarts does it take? Some say 3 some say 4.

Fill it with fluid until it runs out of the fill plug on the side. The howling indicates your gears weren't set up optimally--need to re-set them to quiet the howling. The vibration is not normal but common after a swap. Most likely need to adjust your pinion angle to fix it. Keep an eye on your rear u-joint as it can die quickly when the pinion is way off (days). Also might want to check your rear to make sure it's centered and square.

I checked the U and it is fine. My TA has a fixed angle in it so I can not adjust it. I will add fluid and see what happens. I am thinking it is not square since it pulls to the left when I give it gas and pulls to the right when I cost but my LCAs are fixed so I can not adjust that either. Looks like I may have to upgrade my LCAs this winter. I may swap the gear to a 4.10 but I do know I will be taking out the center to at least adjust the gears and re seal the center to the housing as it is seaping so I will look at the patern.

The Pull left andto the right is the characteristic of a detroit locker, which can be excerbated with different tire pressures , different tire diameters.
Vibration wise you may be able to rotate your Driveline 180 degrees and then bolt it back up to the axle , that may cure that.
As for the howling and whining gears , check gear pattern, ring gear to pinion backlash, and drivepinion preload.

I will try the pressure thing. I rotated the shaft 180* and no change. I will also try putting the LCAs in the stock location to see if that does anything as I think the LCA brackets are not perfectly even.

By the way, I had to get an adjustable panhard bar to center my rear after the install. It was off by about an inch.

I still have the stocker. I may have to look into upgrading the rear suspension this winter.
