I win hands down! ...when it comes to who has the most driveline noise.
A few ten second passes on my moser 12 bolt has made it the most incredibly noisy rear end you can imagine. Run the car up to 50mph and then let off the gas, and the whine becomes easy audible over the open y-pipe!!
Anybody know a good book on how to rebuild rearends?.

Re: I win hands down! Damn Larry, that sucks. Jason had the same problem with his. We were driving around while running through the open y-pipe, and I could easily hear the gear whine over the exhaust. I know of a GREAT rearend guy that's in Lubbock if you ever decide to make the trip. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

put 100 miles of easy driven on the car this morning, with lots of easy shifts. Gonna put 50 more on it tonight, and start to get a little more aggressive.
Tommorrow, I'll do some cleaning, prep the car for the track and be ready to go. Even if its raining at the house...I'm going!

Re: I win hands down! My 12-bolt went from quiet to whine after only about 11 track passes. It whines most when letting off the gas (or clutch in) while going 40 MPH or faster. Kind of surprised me - but as long as it doesn't mean it will break, I don't care. But if it is a sign of trouble, then I will want to do something about it.
Anyone know?

p.s. I am rapidly finding out that "indestructible" 12 bolts, CF driveshafts, etc are very breakable. I just hope they are less likely to do so.

Re: I win hands down! all my buddys who have 12 bolts in thier 11/10 second cars ended up with a ton of gear whine after thier first couple launches at the track too. 2 of them are bad enough that they have a grinding feeling when you are coasting. i like my 9" <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Re: I win hands down! I was wondering if mine was whining to bad I just have a 10 bolt with a new set of 4.10s and whine is kinda loud only in 4th, 5th and 6th is that normal or should i hear it in all gears. Only while accelerating and decel. Mainly accelerating though. Thanks

Wow ,this is bad news..I had nothing but problems with my 10 bolt with motive gm 4.10's and then richmond 3.73's and wasn't even doing track stuff..just normal driving with the odd run against a buddy or gtech quartermile..both whined so bad that I couldn't stand it and went back to 3.42 gears.I was thinking a nice new 12 bolt would end my problems and now we hear this..so maybe I should go for a nine inch ford..I can't believe that you can't get quiet gears..maybe try that new redline 240 weight I think it is on these noisy suckers and see if it helps..If nothing does I guess its time for a cutout..my stereo is already plenty loud and have lots of dynamat stuff in the back of car from my last attempt to shut my whining gears up.

Re: I win hands down! My Strange 12 whines too. Its also became noisier after racing it. Got the gears and bearings changed under warranty and set up by Jason and now its much quiter. Strange did right by me and stood behind their work. Stereo and headers with oryp take care of whats left. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
