Ok, so if im looking at an upgrade from my stock 3.23s in my 10 bolt i need a few questions answered. Ok, first, i hear alot about people asking and talking about what series carrier they have, how do i find out what mine is? Also, If im not gonna swap out entire rear-ends and just want to do gears, should i get the 10-bolt cover that thunder-racing makes after i install yhe gears? Finnally, as far as drivability is concerned, i hear in an auto 3.73s are as high as u want to go if u drive alot and i do, on the highway, but would it affect that to much if i got the 3.90s? thnx.

If you have 3.23 (GU5) gears now you have a 3 series carrier (not to be confused with 3 or 4 channel ABS). Aftermarket cover is optional. 3.73 is as high as I'd go in an A4 - JMO. Another option is keep the 3.23's and get a torque converter...

which will net me a better gain? keep going back and forth on the issue of gears vs. TC! My wife drives my car now more than me cause i have to drive so far to work and my 6 month old son rides in it so i have alot more to take into account now. i figured that a TC would net me a better gain at the track or at a light but would cost more than gears, but then the shitty 10 bolt wont last. i want to be in the mid twelves so which should i go with? When i get one or the other, ill have the long tubes on! I know most will say get both but for now im just lookin for the one that will be the better buy cause money doesent grow on trees, hell, it took me almost 2 years for my wife to let me buy headers!!!!!

get motive 3.73's. they'll last with your current mods. i'm making 485rwhp, and i still have a 10 bolt, and i drive the car how it was built to be driven, i'm running motive 4.10's, detroit truetrac, and chromemoly axles.

Get the converter. Trust me

Gears in a 10 bolt is a waste of $ IMO. Because if your 10 bolt ever breaks your gonna most likely want to upgrade to a 12 bolt and you get to pick what gears you want in them.

Besides the converter will gain you .5 in the quarter where 3.73's might gain you .2 or .3 at best. If you want to try a reasonablely priced converter that will blow your hair back and still be very tame for city driving then look at this one:

http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=672&catid=60

With traction (aka heated drag radials) I bet you improve your ET by .6 with that bad boy. The mix of 3200 and 2.6 STR should make it a very streetable converter that you and your wife can easily tolerate around town. Traction permitting of course Yank SS3600 is another great choice but it's a little more expensive.

I know gears are cheaper but the converter is SOOOO much more worth while. If you buy a $500 converter figure on another $50 for a tranny cooler and $250-300 for the install. But I promise you that within days of driving it you'll wonder why the hell it took you so long to buy one.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
