Default broken teeth on pinion gear

OK well i let a friend borrow my car while i was in the field for about a month. when i got back and drove i heard alot of gear nose in the rear so i was like WTF. so i checked and put fluid in I did notice the pinion seal is leaking. SO i drove it to see if the noise went away, and of coarse it didn't a day later it broke on me. so i pulled the cover off and seen the pinon gear was missing teeth. so i pulled the carrier apart cleaned it up. I notice that the ring gear says richmond on it. I was wanting to know is this stock there are 41 teeth on it so it still 2.73 gears. also i dont have much money to play with so for now im looking at getting motive ring and pinion gears for it. for those of you who have them or had them what do you think. Thanks for any help you guys could give me.

kyle
P.S. I have not talked to that S.O.B since

If I had to guess 41 tooth ring gear and 10 tooth pinion= 4.10 gears.......

41-10= 4.10
41-11= 3.73
41-12= 3.42
41-15= 2.73
Those are the most common ratios with 41 teeth on the ring gear. There is also 41-9 = 4.56. I doubt anybody put a Richmond 2.73 in there, I dont even think they make a Richmond 2.73.

well actually i just counted the pinion gear it still in the car haven't gotten a chance to pull it out but i counted 11 so in my calculation's that makes it 3.73's if so that answer's one question. But i'm still debating on what brand of gears to go with.
