Default Strange Dana 60 install...

Did the swap last night. The rear is a Strange Dana 60 with 4.10s, True trac and 35 spline axles.

Everything bolted up perfect and the ABS is functional (3 channel). I pulled the plug in the top of the rear and the reluctor wheel was right in the center. I did not have to shim the sensor either. The only problem I had was the sway bar end links are too short so I do not have a rear sway bar at the moment. I want to do a larger bar anyway so that's not a problem.

The rear came directly from Strange and was built around June of this year. For what it is, the rearend is quiet. There is a slight howl if you let off the gas, just before it starts to coast...other than that its quiet. I do have the Mufflex 3 1/2" exhaust which isnt the quietest anyway so it might hide some of the noise.

The 4.10s are nice! I cant wait to get some sticky tires on it and get to the track. 5th and 6th are now much more usable. I'm totally happy...it's nice having parts that you dont have to worry about. It's a whole different car to drive.

Just some info for you guys if you're looking!

So how did you make your decision Strange vs Moser. What factors did you look at?

Where did you get and cost?

Well at first I wanted a Strange 12 bolt. Then I decided that a 9" may be a better choice since it's a little more rugged. Then I saw the ads for the Strange s60 and thought that overall it was a nice design...a stronger gear than the 9" and a more efficient gear relationship if you get picky. A little havier but only bu about 15lbs.

It turned out that a local guy had one for sale which was a big factor as well as price. It also came with a driveshaft. I've always favored Strange over Moser...dont know why really...I suppose part of it is the problems that they had with the 12 bolts and the torque arms coming loose...but thats neither here nor there.

For the money, I couldnt pass up a 3 channel rear with 410s, 35 spline axles, aluminum cover, and a chromoly driveshaft...especially since I was able to go look at it and talk to the guy.

i'm in the same boat, i just talked to strange about the dana 60. i'm looking into a spool with race axles. do you know what is the power loss of the dana 60, is it more or less than the 12 bolt?

my before numbers were 365 (yeah i know thats low for cam only), i dont have any after numbers. im sure it takes a few ponies to turn this and the chromoly driveshaft, but the benefits of knowing it will take the abuse offsets that.

now when i look at heads or nitrous i wont have to think about the point of doing that w/o driveline that will handle it reliably.

Wonder what the "howl" is related to?

Did you pull the cover and inspect the gears?

Stock torque arm. I did not pull the cover...I'll do that this spring when I do a fluid change.

Dyno pull before and after Strange 12 bolt 4.11's install showed a loss of 13 RWHP. But, it sure does not feel that way. Get ready to buy some new rear tire soon.

congrats i agree, the s60 is a DIRECT bolt in, my stock sway bar/ end links cleared fine tho. I did buy a BMR non adj. torque arm, but that rubbed on my floorboard so i put the stock one back on. I get a lotta howl about 60-75 mph but thats it. i can't wait to get it to the track... best rear end on the market IMO.
