Default Jason 99 TA...Phoenix Injector ?'s

Jason, I noticed in another post that you said the phoenix injector works really well for bleeding the clutch hydraulics. Im gonna be doing a clutch install soon on my car with all new hydraulics and would like to keep it as drama free as possible. I looked at the phoenix injector web page and it looks like a nice setup. I was wondering which model I would need and would I just need to 10 pack or the smart pack? I want to keep it as basic and low cost as possible. Also, can you go into more detail on the bleeding process with the phoenix injector? I noticed you said something about bleeding it out of the car? I could do it either way, in or out of the car..prefer the easiest. What do I tap into to push the fluid through the whole system? I am assuming I would use the RFI process. Thanks Jason

Dave, here is the setup we use:
Phoenix Injector

We had to find some hose to connect up to the bleeder on the slave. Other than that, the injector came complete.

The bleeding procedure is very simple. Assemble the hydraulics just as it would be in the car (fluid resorvoir attached, braided line attached to the m/c and slave, etc) Fill the bottle included in the kit with GM brake fluid. Attach the injector to the bottle. Then, crack the bleeder screw on the slave cyl and attach the injector to the bleeder with a fitting supplied in the kit and the rubber hose. Then, start bleeding. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Just make sure the cap is off the fluid resorvoir as fluid will be pushed back through here. It will make a mess. LOL

Do this for a minute or so and close the bleeder and you are done. Disconnect the braided line at the slave cyl and go install.

You can bleed it this way in the car, but it is cleaner and easier out of the car.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jason

Thanks for the info Jason. $300 bucks is a little rich for my blood for a tool that has no use other than bleeding my own clutch..I wouldnt if I could get by with one of the less expensive ones...the V12 is only 100 bucks with the smart pack and says it works for bleeding clutches. Is there any other sure way to bleed the hydraulic system and not worry about air? I dont trust the old pump the peddle and crack the bleeder method...Im not sure but if you bleed the slave in the car..is there any chance of leaking fluid onto the clutch disk? Thanks again

Dave

Yes, $300 is quite steep, but we use the Phoenix Injector quite a bit and it has more than paid for itself. If this will be just a one time deal, then it would be a little too $$ for me as well.

The V12 might work, but I really haven't had any experiences with it.

I haven't had any problems with fluid getting on the clutch when bleeding at the slave. It is at an odd position on these cars.

I have bled the m/c another way with pretty good luck. Here is what I have done:

- Place the m/c in a vise.
- Attach the fluid resorvoir to the m/c, but do not attach the braided line.
- Fill the resorvoir up with fluid
- Pump the m/c rod about 10 times. Fluid will come out of m/c where the braided line is supposed to be attached.
- Attach the braided line and install.

I have done a few m/c installs this way when I did not have access to the Phx. Inj. This method seems to work well, but you may still have a little air in the system. It works a LOT better than not bench bleeding the m/c and trying to bleed in the car. That is a PITA!! Using this method, I did not have to bleed the system anymore after installing it, but it probably wouldn't hurt to bleed it once or twice at the slave cyl. To do this, just pump the pedal a few times, keep pedal to the floor, open bleeder, close bleeder, and repeat.

Good luck!

Jason
