Default Upgrading gears mess up SPEEDOMETER?

I have a 98 T/A with 2.73's. I want to uprade to 3.73's and a 3500 stall converter. Will the speedometer in the car be inaccurate by switching the gear ratio? If so, how could this be fixed? I have 16 Inch rims if that helps any.

Yes it will be off. The car will think that you are going faster than you actually are...thus putting more mileage on the car.

You can fix it with tuning...and handheld programmer........or something like that

So what your saying is i can take a handheld programmer or some other method of tuneing and tune my computer to think i got real high ratio gears and it would put less milage on my car as i drive it? This might be the dumbest question ever asked but oh well.

Anytime you change gear ratio you need to flash the computer. At least if you want it done correctly. The factory setting is only set for your stock gears.

Your not tricking the PCM into think you got some high ratio, you are actually correcting it to the ratio you swapped in.

So where can I take my car to get it programmed? A dealership or local auto shop?
