Mine was fine for ~65,000 km, but now I get a clunking noise from the rear.

Here are some details:
If I slowly come to a stop, out of gear, I hear/feel a clunking from the rear of the car
Dealer replaced fluid (and friction additive)...still clunks
Dealer replaced bearings, housing, and a few other parts (~$2100 under warranty)...still clunks
Clunks when the rear end is not under load (i.e. going down a hill with cruse control on)
If you leave the car in 4th as you slowly come to a stop, you will hear the clunking noise at around 40 km/h
If you are driving and the gear your are in is too high for you speed this will often result in a clunking noise

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jason

The clunking noise can also be produced by repeatedly engaging and disengaging the gas pedal at a low RPM.

Check your Lower control arms... my cousin was having the same problem on his 99 SS, he has aftermarket bolton relocation brackets and they had come loose.

make sure your torque armo bolts have not come loose.....my car would clunk everytime i hit the brakes or shifted gears...turnsout the torque arm bolts were only on finger tight....tightened them and the noise went away...

The dealer covered ~$2100 worth of work, under warranty, to resolve the clunking noise, which continued to get worse over time. When I got the car back it was still making the same noise, so I decided to tighten some of the bolts in the rear (i.e. lower control arm bolts etc.). The bolts were loose and tightening them resolved the issue for 4-5 days.

Im looking into getting the brackets welded in place now.

Thanks for your help!
