Default 2.73 to 3.23 noticable difference?

just like the title says, will there be a noticeable difference or isn't it worth my time?
i can possibly pic up a used (20k on it) Eaton Posi with 3.23's and a TA girdle for $225

yup, but used gears have to be set up exactly the way they came out (within a few thousandths of an inch) so that will not whine. Once a pattern is established in a gear set you have to maintain that mesh pattern. Then you have to get the spedometer calibrated and pay for the install. So it will be a bit more than $225. If your doing that much work i suggest you invest in a $125 set of new 3.73 gears. you will be happy you did in the long run

id put fresh bearings on it, as well as the pinion. if its a eaton unit there could be clutch wear, where as a torsen doesnt use clutches, eaton uses a limited slip additive with mineral oil and no additive with synthetic when filling it, other than that splines should be the same. If you have a 98 you should have a torsen, i like torsens better than eatons, many will argue that though, just watch this post fill up.

one other thing to look out for 3-channel rears have a ABS ring on the posi 4 channels do not, so you cant ise a 4-channel posi in a 3-channel rear unless you buy a ring, remove the ring gear and press on the ABS ring and then put the ring gear back on

good luck with it

The Z/28 I test drove was way less sporty off the
line than the SS I ended up buying and that's all
in the gears. But I say, might as well go for the
3.42s since they're just as plentiful and factory
durable and you need the new carrier anyway.
Might just want to get a 3.42 rear and refresh it
(if you want to stay 10-bolt, which many will tell
you not to). You have to suspect abuse from a
M6 but can find them in serviceable condition for
pretty cheap local, if you're patient; nobody
wants to ship them and nobody hardly wants
them period.

I got a set of used 3.42s and they got set up just
normally, and dead quiet they are. I only did it
since the chunk was coming out anyway for the
T2-R.
