New gears, what else do i need? Hey guys, im looking at getting some 4.10's off of ebay from Motive Gears. Basically just the ring and pinion. I also am looking into buying a new diff cover, and i already have some redline gear oil. What else do i need? Im going to take it all to a tranny shop and them install it. I just want to have everything for them. Do i need an install kit? If so, where can i get it and how much? Will my stock (torson)? posi work with the new gears? I need some info here guys. And if anyone has any of the parts i need and wants to sell em to me, email me! I wanted to get one of those TA rear covers... Thanks!
Re: New gears, what else do i need? You need something to correct the speedometer or it and the odometer will read 20% high. Options include LS1Edit (full PCM programming and control capability), HPP3 (limited PCM programming capability; available new or used), and SLP's speedometer corrector gizmo (least expensive but single purpose).
I wouldn't buy used gears, they can be harder to set up for quite operation; especially if flogged at the track.

Re: New gears, what else do i need? I have the power programmer, so i should be ok there. And im in talks with a few people about getting a girdle rear cover. And i should be gettin a set of 4.10s off ebay, new. Is there anything else i need? On a few sponsor sites, i see "master install" kits.. do i need one of those? They are 100 bucks.. whats included in it? Is it needed to install my 4.10s?

You should just get a 1/2 kit they are like 20.00 to 40.00 bucks depending on where you get it.The full kit has alot of stuff you really dont need like complete bearings to completally rebuild the rearend.The 1/2 kit has shims,crushcollar,& a gasket just what you need.
