Difference between 3 & 4 series carriers??
I know you cant interchange ring & pinion gears between a 2 series and a 3 series carrier but what about a 4 series, will 3 series ring & pinion gears fit a 4 series and visa versa?
I ask because I always hear the term 4 series associated with torsens, i had 4.10's installed on my torsen and when i ordered the gears my only two options were to order 4.10's for a 2 series carrier (3.08 and numericaly lower ratio) and 3 series carrier (3.23 and numericaly higher ratio) Ive always thought what you are saying, that its just a different ring gear thickness but if I have a 4 series carrier and 3 series gears installed, that makes me wonder what the difference is.

If your car has stock gears and posi then you have a Series 3 carrier with 3.42 gears.
All M6's came with 3.42 gears and a series 3 carrier since 1994.
No f-body 10 bolts come with 4 series carriers.
