pinion too shallow. add shims under the pinion head bearing. or do it right... get a depth guage and set it to the reading inscribed on the gearset.

Way... way, waaaay to shallow. That set is crossed up and needs a few thou added to even get into the ball park.

First, what kind of gear set is that ?

Second, do you know what the curent pinion depth is ?

Looks like the pinion is too close to the carrier. Have you put shims between the inner pinion bearing and the pinion????? If you have it looks to me like you have 6 shims installed and need to remove at least 2 of the shims. I put 4.11 in my rear and initially installed with no shims. Contact was toward the outer edge of the ring gear. I took the inner pinion bearing off and added 4 shims and it was perfect. There is barely any whine at all and this is a 10 bolt....

Maybe that is why everyones diff makes noise !?!! Its not about putting in or taking out 6 shims here and 2 shims there... the adjustment are by the thousandnths 0.001" etc, etc.

Right now he is looking at a depth change of "??" who knows... we have to know what he currently has in it to make that determination.

When you let off the gas you are on the coast side - which looks like it is set up fine. However when driving you are getting that noise because your drive side leaves a lot to be desired in gear pattern.

Agree with everyone, add .005-.007 pinion shim and adjust backlash to .008-.009 for a used gear.

You have way too much pinion shim, you need to take some out. If your not sure what you are doing get some help from someone that does.

chicane is dead on this is not about one shim here two shims there. you need to measure get a pinon detph tool and do it right that way you won't have to do it twice
