Default Dana 60 owners

I wanted to get some progress reports on the Danas. Any info would be great. Noise, fitment issues, overall impressions, time for delivery and install. I want to buy one in a 3.42 ratio but keep hearing of problems with Strange customer service as well as noise issues. Most common being loud gear noise.

Thanks for the help.

The Strange 60 lowest ratio is 3.56.

Problems still seem to be hit or miss with the noise problem and strange doesn't seem to know what is causing the problem. They don't seem to be able to fix it. The "Its a racing rear end it's going to be noisey" responses got old fast.

Bought my strange 60 in June and it took almost three months to get. It howled so bad, people walking down the street would turn around to see what the sound was. It was a 3.73 geared 4ch True-trac. Strange replaced the gear set and all the bearings and it was exactly the same after. It had bad TIR on the axles which caused the tire/wheels to be out of balance and the abs/tcs sensors were out of position.

I've switched to a 9" from DLS and it has been dead quite from the start. Scott really takes the extra time to set them up right and he stands behind his work. Only took 1- 1/2 weeks to get it and it came already painted.

Don't confuse a Dana 60 with the Strange 60. Strange has their own center section cast for them and I think that is the root of their problems.

Some people have not had any issues and you will here from those like me that have had less than positive results.

It's a $2500 decision that can be very costly.

My .02

I took a risk and went with the Strange s60 and could'nt be any happier. Hardly any whining cept from about 60-70 but its a heavy duty rear end so I expected that. Installation was also a breeze. Only problem was it took a lil over a month to get here

I wasn't too thrilled about talking to whoever answered the phone at strange, they coudn't tell me if a stock torque arm fit perfect muchless an slp adjustable. This caused me to look for someone else to deal with on the s-60. I went to ron @ vengance (sponser here) He answered the question I had and even beat the price strange gave me. The rear went in very easy and everything fit fine. So far I'm happy with this rear.

Thanks everyone. Anyone else? I did not think about the 9" because I did not want to loose my 3 ch abs. My car is a blown 383 with a D1SC/12 psi built A4 with a 2400 stall and 342 10 bolt. The dyno showed 573 rwhp. My plans are more street than strip as I dont want to install a roll cage into my 25th. I have to get other tires that actually stick for my ws6 17" wheels. The GY F1GS suck with this much power. The biggest thing for me is quiet! I hate whines for rearends!

Would a 12 bolt work just as well for my combo?

I've heard owners complain about every brand of rear.

I've had mine for a few months. They quoted me 3-4 weeks and it showed in 3 1/2 weeks. This rear requires a shorter driveshaft. I ordered the 1350 drive shaft to go with the rear but when it got here it didn't include the transmission yoke. After spending the better part of my after noon installing it (it took me a long time because I was doing it alone on my back in the car port and this rear is ******* heavy) I was not about to not drive it. I ended up going to the local auto parts and bought an adapter u-joint to put my stock slip yoke on the end of it. That turned out to be a bad idea. I had horrible noise at 50+MPH and nasty vibration at 100+mph. I order the correct 1350 slip yoke, 2 new u-joints and took it to the local drivetrain place. They pressed in the u-joints and balanced the whole thing for me. Now there is no vibration and only a small amount of noise at 60-70 but very tolerable. Mine is true trac with 4.10's.

A buddy of mine purchased a S60 from Speed Inc and allowed them to install it with 3.73 gears 4wheel abs & true trac posi, after riding in the car it appears to have a slight whine (nothing louder then 4.10's in a stock 10 bolt) from 40-55mph @ light throttle then after that it's dead quiet.. now after only having it for about a couple of weeks i cannot say it won't get worse but for now it seems to have my vote since i was looking for something strong, easy to swap and that would allow me to keep my 3 channel abs as well.

Thanks for the help with this. I will be replacing mine soon and the input has been a help. I can get a used 12 bolt with LS1 brakes already installed on it but the cost of the rear and the rebuild is about $2k. Thats why I have been watching the S60 so closely. I hope you all have continued good luck with yours.

Had my S60 in for a few days and the noise is very mild and only lasts from about 45-53mph. Above 53mph it is eerily quiet. Install was very easy but had to modify BMR trak pak to be able to use the inner set of holes. No big deal. I got a new chromoly 800rwhp DS with it and there are no vibrations so far.

I had the rear in 3 weeks also when they said it would be at least 4 till it shipped!!!

Thank you. I was thinking of buying one thru Scott and having him set it up as per all the recommendations here but after an e-mail and 4 phone calls over the last week, all unanswered I decided to just buy the used 12 bolt.
