Default axle carnage pics...

y'all mighta seen my posts about grenading the rear end at the track in october - surprisingly, it wasnt the diff., it was the driver's side axle that was toast. take a look:

we've almost got her back together - well, she is back together, she's just got a bent caliper bracket that i need to replace. and yes, i'm saving for a dana or something else to replace the junk stocker... no hell-raising until thats done...

No. You can either do it through the hole for the traction control sensor, or if you don't have traction control, you can knock out a small hole in the backing plate to slip the studs through.

Good job Ry Ry You knew it was inevitable.

Why do people say this when they know it is thread jacking?

That is some nice carnage you have there...I'm impressed

Hey, KDs can stick pretty damn well (despite the stiff sidewalls), especially on a sticky/prepped track. Some would even say that it IS the stiff sidewalls sending an immediate shock back up through the driveline (when they DO hook) that can break stuff like you did, but the jury is still out on that one.

yea, i'm anxious to see what those KD's will do with a good rear end. but not until then - cant risk losing the diff too, lol! we went ahead and replaced the diff too, just in case - there was a very small hairline crack in the part that the axle slides into, the little ring looking thing on the diff that you can take off. so we werent gonna risk it. thats still the first AXLE i've seen break in a stock rear, though... (on a 4thgen, at least)...

That is by far the worst that I've even seen an axle break!!!

Very nice work. It suck when it happens but the carnage turned paper weight makes for good memories.

that's a good one... when it broke, did the tire eject out of the car? If not, then you're lucky LOL.

Have you tried doing that on a TRAC axle? That ring needs to come off before you can take the studs out or put the stud in. so on those cars, the axle needs to be removed.

That's exactly how mine looked when I snapped it. Nothing like torsional overload. The disc brake is there to hold the tire inplace for whoever asked about that.

yea, i was actually able to pull the car onto and off the trailer - i guess some of the larger pieces were binding it up enough to do a little load transfer to the tire. it wouldnt move at all when it first broke, but after sitting a few hours it would clunk like hell them lock up and move a little bit.

Yup, wheel would spin a bit then lock up, then move, then lock up. Loading on the trailer was easy, getting it off was another story.
