12. What is a series 2 or series 3 carrier, and what do I have?
A 2 series carrier is a car that came with 3.08s or lower from the factory (i.e. all of your 2.73 cars). A 3 series carrier is a car that came with 3.23s or higher. This is very important when you order new gears, as they will differ from 2 to 3 series carrier!
From my other question a thread was pointed out.

Well thats the issue, I was told by the place that I definitely did not have a series 3 after attempting to put in a set of 3.72 for series 3 and it absolutely did not fit, therefore it must be a series 2. Doubting ( mainly because my rear end is leaking like hell ) that he knew what he was talking about.
How do I tell which one I have. Is there a way to tell by appearance?

Should be a 3 series GU5 3.23 (A4) or GU6 3.42 (M6), codes are on the drivers side door - unless someone changed the rear. My car came with 2.73's, (GU2) still on the door, but have a 3.42 rear out of a M6 car in mine...

So now I am wondering if I should get the series 3 4.11 before I goto the place, and worse case have both available when they do the install and RMA the other unused ones afterwards.
If it is I am not going to be happy with a place that "should" have been able to install them the first time.
