loud grinding and chatter when driving.

loud grinding and chatter when driving. 10 bolt with stock 3.23 gears a4
I did a search and people only hear grinding when turning. The grinding comes when getting off the accelarator going straight. I hear a loud grind with a 5 second delay in between. It all started with a loud pop and clunking noise after a race. It goes away when going to a stop, but that is when a loud howl and chatter can be heard. I think it's pretty much crapped out. Anybody know what it can be? Would it survive one last 25 mile drive to the shop? I would hate for it to crap out completely and not be able to drive when driving it to the shop. Should I worry about the grinding? The car does drive, but the grinding and chatter is very annoying and scary.

Sounds alot like mine, just not as much grinding....Could be:
Pinion
Carrier Bearing
Spider Gears stripped
You would best be off putting it on a trailer or something to take it to the shop, but if not availability I think it would make it..

My thoughts are the same. I just wish I did have access to a trailer. I've driven in it 3 times in the past month after new additive added and oil, but sounds like that didn't help. Hopefully it does make it there.
