Default TrueTrac in a 9"

Is this the most reliable, high-power capable limited slip diff for autocross/road race use?

I don't want to use an auburn/eaton bc of possibility for breakage, and I've heard too many horror stories about lockers twitching the car coming into/out of a turn.

Anyone have testimonials about a TrueTrac unit? Also, what's the difference between that and a TracLoc ?

CORRECT. It is a clutch pack type diff, whereas the True Trac is a (stronger) Torsen "worm gear" type diff. The True Trac is definitely better for autocross/road race/handling. I think that there were some strong higher bias than a True Trac Torsen type road race diffs available, but I forgot the names and who sells them (I think they were called a "Gold Trac" or something, and that name suits how much they cost!! ). Maybe some of the road race people can come on here and tell us about them?? Or maybe post this in the road race/autocross section, or over on www.fraxx.com.

BTW; the irony about the lockers is that the Trans Am race series cars were required to run them in their 9s. But I guess with 700rwhp, and on slicks and 4 way reservoir shocks, and adjustable EVERYTHING, they found a way to work around them!

Well, the TracLoc is definitely out. I know a lot of people say that a helical gear type diff is best, but I'm not too experienced with the models available for that... The TrueTrac sounds like the winner, I guess my question should now be - will a TrueTrac unit bought from one of the sponsors here, for ~$450 (usual list price I've seen), hold up to a 400-500 rwhp autocross/Road Race car? I don't intend to clutch dump, ever, so I'd think it's fine?

I got one coming in my 9 inch that should be here in the next couple days...I've heard of people running 10's at the drag strip dumping pretty high on slicks, so I have no doubt it will handle the power. IIRC, only one person has ever broke one on this board...I can't remember why though.

I've got my third member in the shop now having the locker swapped for a truetrac. I'm looking forward to being able to have people look and appreciate my car then wonder what's all the noise and ratcheting from the rear! I've read a lot on the truetrac and it sounds like they're the way to go for dd'ing

TruTrac is the only way to go IMO if you do something other than Drag race the car. Ive had mine for a few months and its holding up great to very um "uneasy" driving. There are a couple guys at the shop that are using these in 500+ horsepower cars with no problems and driving home on them as tho it were a stocker. You have a PM by the way.

I used it in my 94z28 with my Moser 12 bolt, never an issue if I break it id then consider a spool.
