Posi or not???
PS I drive a 98 formula atx.
split. The difference between a spinning tire
and a sticking tire's back-torque I think is
more than that. So if you spin one, the other
will only receive 2/3 of the spinning tire
torque. That may not be enough to break away
the second tire.
It's not like the old clutch-type posis that
were limited slip, and the loaded wheel takes
more of the torque (the unloaded wheel just
spins slightly faster, whatever gets the
clutches to clamp sufficiently).
There are other Zexel units that have a higher
torque split ratio. There's one that's slightly
better than what comes stock, for our F-body.
I'm not sure if this is the upgrade one that SLP
sells, or not. I saw it on Zexel's web page
somewhere.
So the Zexel works good when you haven't lost
grip yet, but isn't so good when you've
already started to spin. The plus is, the
large torque split makes the Torsen really
handling-benign, even in fast corners, where
posis can make your rear end lose grip in
turns if you're exceeding the slip rate -
interfering with the differential action,
one of the wheels is going to be forced to
go faster or slower than the curve wants them
to, posi forces one to slip. Can be a safety
menace in the wet.
