Default 4.10 gears = lower MPH????

Ever since I swapped my stock gears for the 4.10's, I feel like I don't go as fast as I used to. Today for example, the speedo marked 150mph but it sure as hell didn't feel like it.

Another thing i've noticed is that I woould previously get around 180-190 miles per tank and since the upgrade, I'm getting 210-220 per tank.

Do higher gears really lower your top speed, or is it just me?

Yes they do. And your mileage is because you need to reprogram your computer so that it knows you have 4.10s. Basically your driveshaft is turning 4.1 times to 1 rotation of your rear. Your sensor for your speedometer is on your tranny, so your motor revs more for less MPH in every gear. For whatever reason when I bought my car it was programed for 4.10s but has factory 3.42s. So I calculated that its about 20% off on my speedometer and odometer and trip odometer. If you multiply your number 220 by .8 you get 176 miles the same mileage. Hope this helped!

This is perfect, so once I have the CPU reprogrammed for 4.10's, I should be back to roughly my original MPH and tank mileage right?

Thanks man!

This makes no sense, fuel mileage should drop.

as far as speedo, hopefully, you have a tune on the car, take it to who tuned it, hopefully with LS1Edit, and get them to enter in your 4.10's and reset the PCM for those gears, takes maybe 5 minutes. a tune with LS1Edit should be a 1 time fee of around $450-$500 and tuning for life. meaning when you mod the car later, you can come back and they'll tune it for free...since you already paid your dues.

No, since his speedo is showing higher, he is putting more miles on the car than it is really going.
Example, lets say he is cruising 88mph on his gauge, he is really only doing 60mph, so in 1 hour, he drove 60 Real Miles while his car is showing 88miles.

My fuel mileage went UP after 4.10s, and that was with the ECU being edited for the gears. I just have to use 5th and 6th a hell of a lot more than I did with 3.42s.

could be since there is less load on engine to get you moving and keep you going.
On my car, I lost a lot of mileage with the 4.10's due to me only having a T5 with a .74 5th gear. I'd be cruising at 3500rpm on the highway. With my 3.42's now I am at 2400rpm.
it took some getting used to the 3.42's since I would almost stall the car out when I would take off.

4.11's , 275/40/zr17's , in 5th The stock rev limiter 6200rpm t-56 = 156mph , then I shifted to 6th and pulled another 1,000rpm and let off, couldve went more but I wanted to live to do it again .

Try pulling it till the rev limiter , unless yours is 7,000 than I advise you dont .

My car has the small stock cam and makes no power past 4800rpm.
My rev limiter is set to 9800rpm.

Highway fuel mileage will go down with a 4.10:1 as opposed to a 3.42:1 gear. That's a fact.

City mileage theoretically should stay the same, you'd just be shifting more often.

All I know is RPM isnt effected by the rear gear ratio, in 6th gear its going to be spinning 300 rpms more.
