i would go easy on it for a few hundered miles. a few heat cycles is all it needs. just for insurance maybe drain and refill with fresh gear oil, but thats about it.

I am sure its just like my Moser 12 bolt.

Fill the rear, on jack stands, forward and reverse for so many minutes.

Let cool.

Drive for 20 minutes, varying speed, no hard launches, no highway, park, let cool completely.

Pull it to the line, burnout, launch.

I let mine run 30 minutes on jack stands and loaded the car on the trailer brought it to the track to see how high the front wheels would come off the ground. I got the spool too.

Wow...

Just reading the replies in this post alone, no longer makes me question why so many people are having noise issues with their differentials.

The only rear I can comment on is a Moser 12 bolt, they all sound quite in the beginning after a few hard launches the it makes more noise, it just has to do with the meterial in the gears.

For about 500 miles take it easy, give it a few heat cycles, change fluid and check things out at the end,if everythign looks good...GO TO THE TRACK!

just standard gear break-in procedure. drive it 15 miles or so, and let it completely cool. do this 3 times. probably wouldn't hurt to change out the fluid after the break-in.

Uhmm... noooo... thats not it either. The only gear set that doesnt require a cyclic break in are 9310's. All 8620 gear sets require a number heat cycles to work harden the gear face... independant of material or rockwell hardness.

Getting a little closer to what I recommend... which is driving it like grandma for 20-25 miles and letting it cool down to ambient temperature. The only difference is, I recommend doing that a minimum of 6-8 times. For most people, that equals driving to and from work for a week... so by the weekend they are pretty assured that they can go pound on it.

Changing the lube isnt really a must... unless you over heat it during break in... but your right, it probably wouldnt hurt at all.

I have exp with my own rear and 3 other cars that have it now, one was just put in 2 weeks ago and the guy is in Academy for CT St Troopers, its quiet, very quiet, doing the proper heating cycles when He gets it to the track and really starting the pounce on it, its going to get louder.

My car had over 1k on the rear and never saw a hard launch or the track, and still had noise, it had plently of heat cycles.

But since the rear is going into the new car and new gears are going to be swapped in, id like to see how it will be effected. They will be Moser Pro Street gears, 4.11's
