doing 120mph and tranny breaks

doing 120mph and tranny breaks i was simply coming down 45 south alongside another ws6 not even at WOT, just mildly accelerating and once i hit around 115-120 mph and 4800-5000 rpms it made almost a shattering noise but it wasnt anything that flew out. the rpms flashed to 6000-6200 and then i let off and it started to coast. trying to give it a little throttle it flies up to 5000+ rpms and doesnt move.
we were able to coast it into a chevron and upon starting it up it makes a loud pinging sound and almost sounds like a weight from inside in the converter broke loose. i still have reverse but thats it not any other gear without it moving like its breaking something.
any input would be greatly appreciated as we're going to crack it open tomorrow hopefully and see what happened. any suggestions on what to check or look(out) for would also be great. thanks everyone.
