No you don't need it. It is used for rain/snow and even then it isn't needed. I daily drive my car without ABS and we just got hit with 6 inches of snow. I drove the car in it and didn't have any braking issues. Buy the rear without it and get rid of the ABS stuff under the hood.

You take off the lower kick panels and then the shroud around the gauge cluster. Unscrew the cluster screws and pull it straight out, flip it over and there are the bulbs. I don't know if the ABS light has its own bulb though or shares it with another warning light, might want to check that (i.e. remove bulb, reinstall, flip key forward and see what lights cease to light up).
