Default Question for which gear for my setup

I have my mods in my sig and right now I HAVE 2.73 GEARS! Yeah I know. Well I am in the market for a new gear set to get my bird out of the whole. I have an A4 and it's a stock tranny with no cooler yet. I do plan on getting heads in the near future and intend on installing them ASAP. I do daily drive my vehicle 200+ miles a week and just like to get a good gear with decent gas mileage when I am off of it. I plan on keeping the stock rear until it breaks and then upgrading to a Moser 9". Please help me out with this.

I voted 3.73. If you want to chug around and get better mileage in OD, go with the 3.42's. I don't even know if you'll notice a difference though...

From 2.73's to 3.42's he will notices a difference, I always take milage into consideration especailly with an A4, ive owned one and this is a good enough jump. 3.73's is the generally accepted gear ratio for racing but as the poster stated, he does drive the car alot.

3.73 unless u wanna save a little bit of gas go with 3.42's I got 3.73 and before I had 3.23 so to me they a decent change. I get 280 miles on a full tank with my 3.73 driving normal that is but they still pretty decent!

3.73s will give you the best 1/4 mile time. 3.42 will yield slightly better fuel economy.
I went with 3.42, and was very glad I did, since it is the best for a turbo.
Also, you have a 2 series carrier, so you will need the thicker gear made especially for it. Strange is supposed the make the quietest, although Motive also makes one. If you want it to last longer, go ahead and get the T/A girdle with the bearing supports bolts. I have about 30k miles on this setup with no issues at all.

When I said "I don't even know if you'll notice a difference though..." I was comparing the 3.42's to the 3.73's, not 2.73's. I agree with what you said.

Default gears

I think I am going to go with the 3.42s since I plan on putting a stroker turbo engine in the car. Thanks for the info
