3.73 gears in a a4

3.73 gears in a a4 i want to put some 3.73's in my a4 is that all i need to do ? i mean just the gears , no other special thing i shopuld upgrade before the gears ? and i will need a install kit right ?
if it has 3.23's you already have a 3 series carrier so all you need are gears for a 3 series carrier, the rest depends on whos doing the job. If you are doing it yourself id suggest you invest in a master install kit, make sure you get the kit that has the pinion seal for your car, and since you are removing the axles you may even want to buy axle seals while your at it. If you are bringing it somewhere ask the mechanic to see what they require you bring, most places have tons of shims, you would just have to supply the crush collar, gasket and gear oil. Also, new pinion and carrier bearings are always a good idea too.
The other thing you may want to consider is recalibrating your spedometer, thats done through the PCM, in my case I had other bolt ons and I decided just to send my PCM out for tuning, they calibrated for the spedometer, while they were at it I had them adjust my timing and fuel curve (whatever the hell a fuel curve is) i put a 160 stat in ot and they calibrated for that including lower fan settings and they removed the torque management. If you havent sent your PCM out for tuning yet i would suggest it, it made quite a noticable difference with my car, if you need a reccomendation of a place to send it to PM me

no prob, Good luck - one thing i didnt mention was that in an Auto i believe they can recalibrate for shift points, i dont know how that works for sure, my car is stick, someone else will probably chime in though
