Be prepared for SPEC/STAR to tell you its hydraulic related and their clutch is fantastic and they've never had any problems with their clutches. I have read this situation over and over again! Guys install the stage 3 clutches and have hydraulic problems afterwards. Some replace the hydraulics with updated ones(recommended) and some don't. SPEC/STAR claims you do not have to upgrade your hydraulics but they recommend that you install the 01-02 versions. I installed my old stage 3 carbon into my 00 WS6 without replacing any hydros and its fine. It only had about 700 miles of break-in from my 99 SS when I pulled it.

99mongoose, i cant decide if you are supporting spec or not

if you are cool with dave he will be cool with you, i have no complaints over my investments with them and in my personal experience (i dont speak for others) i have not had any problems with their clutch on my factory hydraulics, and of the problems i have read 95% were hydraulic bleed issue or a bad install.. the other 5% just gave up before finding the problem.

the above said i dont know what clutch you have but i put 20k on a stage 3 carbon with no problems and upgraded to the stage 4 ceramic unsprung while the motor was out because im expecting significantly more torque.
these are the only 2 i will reccomend that ive had experience with.

good luck with your problem and please email me if i can help at all.

aka 99mongoose: I had some issues with hydrualics in my SS, even after I updated them, but that had nothing to do with SPEC. But My first stage 3 carbon's disk broke with only 400 miles on it. I had a local trans shop install the clutch and they talked with Star extensively before installing it. The disk shreded the rivets toward the middle on the disk right off. First, Star said it must have been a hydraulic issue; that they've never had a problem before. UMM OK! Then they claimed it was abuse! I only had roughly 400 miles on it. I am a firm believer in proper clutch break-in. I usually put about 600 city miles on the clutch before any abuse (thats over kill in my opinion). The trans shop pulled the whole clutch and shipped it to Star. The disk looked new, other then the middle being broken(rivets). Star DID take care of it and sent me another disk and my old pressure plate back. They agreed that it wasn't from abuse and that they would be looking into the matter further(maybe a defective batch of rivets???). I don't have anything against STAR/SPEC, the replacement clutch is working fine in my 00 WS6 thats stock. I am sorry if I came off at first like Star is crap. Just be ready to hear some excuses. If they see that your being truthful they should take care of it, they did for me. I now have a RAM 6130/402 VDS clutch in my SS, and I LOVE it. It grabs like theres no tomorrow and I can't even notice any chatter. In my opinion a much better clutch then the Spec stage 3 carbon.
