Transmission or Gear Growl: Anyone else? Highly modded Z28, 400 rwhp, sy3500 TC, 3.73 gears, shift kit. Hard 1-2 shift, unnerving growl on acceleration (maybe every third time). No slipping , just this mechanical gear mashing or tranny noise. Had differential oil changed last week, noise is back.

No but seriously have seen ole t-700 w/sprags & or planetaries torn up make funky intermittant noises. Mabe see if it will do it off the ground & listen to drivetrain from under car?

Too much and you'll get a bit of slop in the gears which can lead to excessive howling. 12 Bolts are notorious for howling (not sure about 9's, no personal experience there). It's annoying, but I just turn the radio up and put the windows down. Howling goes away. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
