Default Stop TA Performance diff cover leaks?

What's that magic secret here to stop a TA differential cover from leaking?

I've tried RTV as the gasket. The paper gasket from TA with RTV. Have put pipe thread tape on all the bolts, filler plug, drain plug, and main cap bolts.

This thing still leaks. Any ideas?

Leaks from where? Load bolts? Drain or fill? Cover it self?

I always clean the covers down with brake cleaner and rtv the oad bolts so that don't seep, I have yet to have a drain or fill seep, jut keep them tight. As for the cover surface, I always clean with brake cleaner and use a scotch brite clean up disc on a die grinder to smooth and clean the surface.

Mine seeped slightly around the load bolts until I took it off cleaned everything real well and used a bit of RTV around them.

IT was leaking from the load bolts and by several of the "lower half" allen bolts for the cover.

I did notice that the threads on the cover for the load bolts start about 1/2 inch inside the cover. I think I might have missed that the last time and did not apply thread tape down the bolt shaft far enough.

I purchased Permatex high heat thread sealer this time and Perm High temp RTV silicone gasket maker. I will apply the gasket maker to both sides or the paper gasket and let the thread sealer set up for a few minutes on the bolts.

Hate to install all this and have it start leaking again.

I used medium strength loctite for sealing all the fasteners, no leaks yet.

remove the cover. clean out old sealer and residual gear oil from the bolt holes on the rearend. clean the cover and *rough* the cover surface with a scotchbrite on a die grinder, or 60 grit sandpaper. clean the cover again. put a rag over the gears and do the same to the rearend. apply the rtv *no gasket* on the diff cover and circle the bolt holes with rtv when doing so. apply a light amount of the same rtv to the rearend in the same way. install the cover and use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts in a crossing pattern to 25-30 ft./lbs. back off the load bolts all the way, apply a small bead of rtv around the studs and run them down, then torque to 10 ft/.lbs., then torque the jam nuts the same. apply permatex type teflon paste to the threads on the plugs after they've been cleaned. if possible, let the diff sit overnite before filling with fluid. i also have had good luck with the permatex copper high temp type rtv.

I've installed several of these covers, and never have had them leak using this procedure. remember... surfaces have to be clean and dry to make rtv effective. best way is to use scotch brite surface pads and brake cleaner.

Mine don't leak at all. Like ^ said, try letting it all dry overnite before filling.

We'll see what happens.

I let the cover sit for 5 days after sealing it up. I then waited 3 days after applying the thread sealer to the fill plugs after I filled it. I also relocated the vent tube on the diff housing to a chassis mounted vent using fuel line.

Can I use the bolts that come with the cover to attach the parking brake holders? Also in that pic above is that hose on the right come off your vent? I want to put on hose on mine or something it leaks all over the rear and gets on the shock and everything.

Yes, that is a vent tube extension that uses two vents. One with top removed to slide the hose over and the other one inserted in the end. It is fastened to the heat shield. I also applied RTV to the vent before inserting it into the diff housing.

Guys, I really don't know.

One time a few months ago I went to the dealer and had him pull up the view of the rear components. He asked me what I needed and I said "All of it". He laughed and repeated himself. So did I, "One of everything please". Then I appologized and said my mistake, I need everything but the rear differential. This went on for a few minutes until the parts manager came walking by and greeted me (knows me) and asked what I was working on now. I told him: "The rear end of the car". He said: "Great, should we just order one of everything like we did for the front last time?". The new parts counter guy dropped to the floor, then got up and started typing the order.

So, I have no idea what the part number is. All I know is how to point on the screen and say "That thing right there" or say "All of it". I appologize.
