Did I avoid transmission death?
As for the transmission, you *might* be OK as long as everything did not get too hot. That you were able to keep moving indicates you kept some fluid (otherwise the torque converter wouldn't work).
Hope the best for you.
On the way home from work I noticed smoke coming out from behind me, not sure what it was, I got to the right one lane, then went to accelerate to get over one more lane, NO GEARS in D. I got to a light drop to 3, turned right babied and coasted far as I could, ~1.5 mi.!,(curbed no turn off). Then I had to stop and nothing left. Pushed to station. My hose to my transmission cooler had come off. I'd lost 5.5 qts of fluid. I put a new hose clamp on filled with fluid, seems to run fine. Should it have been alright or did I get lucky?

You're a loser!
