and a Dana 60 is how much? i would happily buy a good rear if i could but i cant afford it, i can get the parts for the 10 bolt with installation a lot cheaper than i could buy a 12 bolt, 9 inch, Dana or whatever... i did the math and its cheaper and more practical for me to go that route. im sure that gears and diff. will hold up to the MS4 and heads im planning on putting in the car. doubt it will make it past 500rwhp but i just wanna beef it up a little to for added insurance. its a auto so it doesnt take as much abuse as the m6 cars anyway

I wouldnt be sure. You will probably get some use out of it, but if you are going to be hooking well you are on borrowed time. If you are lucky you will only break one part and be able to salvage the rest for resale.

Dude, the 10-bolt won't hold up to a stock motor. No, really. I actually am laughing just like this guy (emoticon).

Buddies putting out 410+WHP on 275 tires though is 10 bol...beats the hell out of it and its still works great, hes got richmond 4.10's and Moser axles.

I think it depends on the 10 bolt your have...some people make it into 10's some people dont make it was and airlid.

agreed, a lot of the 2wd s-series guys run them with limited issues. but the v8'ed 4x4 guys with huge tires have issues

my 2dr blazer weighs in a 3014# with me so thats gotta help some.

what does a 4th gen weight in at roughly 3400#

either way less weight (unsprung and sprung) will help the 10 bolt to survive a little longer

Im surprised your blazer is so light. My S10 is a standard cab, short box 2wd.
My Z is a t-top with 17's, monsoon, power, etc. All the weight options except leather. Last time at the track my car weighed 3780 I think, less than a 1/2 tank also.

Ok to answer his orginal question. It wasnt do the 10bolts suck. Yes we all know that was gms worst decision behind their best motor. But yes. Theres the Eaton Posi,Detroit TruTrac,Detriot Locker all available for the 10bolt. Moser and Superior also make beefier axles too. Superior being the cheaper of the 2. I ran my stock torsen to a 1.49 60ft spraying outta the hole. Yes its seen its better day now after 2 years and tons of racing. Im looking at either the trutrac or locker but Im not sure if the trutrac will hold a mid to high 1.4 60ft.

standard cab truck and 2dr blazers are close in weight, but blazers are better distribuited.

you have a 350 i have a 4.3 thats a good 100 lb difference. plus i have extensive weight mods done to my blazer.

im trying to hit 3000 pounds with me and my newly aquired N2O setup. while keeping AC

most of the blown/busted 10 bolts ive had apart the carrier bearings had excessive wear, and the pinion bearings were worn the hell out.i think alot of the 10 bolts that have busted were in need of a rebuild to begin with .just my opinion

I think that is true of all the old mid-size/full size cars, 3rd gens and S10's, etc that really didnt have much power stock. But these rears with a LS1 is a completely different story, plus these cars arent very light.

you will never have to worry about your rearend again....ever. rebuilding the 10 bolt, you'll always mess it up....no way can you make it stronger.

Well, maybe not "done". You could spend 3g's on a dana 60 setup, get it installed yourself only to find it whines like a virgin ***** and want's to spit every piece of the center section out the first chance it gets. Then spend another 2 months towing your car all over the state trying to get a STRANGE approved shop to set up a new set of gears that don't whine. Finally rebuild the rear yourself on your dollar so that it still whines but is tolerable enough to unload on some other poor sucker. Ask me how I know.
