Default strengthening stock rear?

Is there anything you could do to strengthen the stock rear on a 02 f-body? like 31 spline axles or something to that affect? i would prefer to stregnthen it than buy a 12 bolt or 9 inch so if theres any products out there that can help make a reliable piece out of the stock rear let me know please.

If there were, there wouldn't be such a big market for 12-bolts and 9"s..

its the gears themselves that are weak and theres not much you can do about it. ive blown up 2 10 bolts with a close to stock z28. the best thing to do is ride the 10 bolt while you can and save up for a 12 bolt

dont bother with the TA girdle...by the time your making enough power to utilize the force screw design...well it wont help

tainted has it down...the 4th gen rearends are weak. a stock car with sticky tires can break it easy.

if your absolutely bent on trying to beef up the stock rear end...get better quality gears, arp bolts/fasteners, billet cap carrier

now heres the catch...unless you have practice with installing gears, your going to need to go to a shop. labor and parts for putting in the above will pretty much equal how much your going to pay for a 12 bolt or 9" and your still not going to be as strong as the 12 bolt.

Gears = $180-200
Install kit = $100-150
Axles = $250
Diff = $350-450
Girlde = $160

Well over a grand before shipping/tax and you still have to factor in the labor.

take it from someone who broke off their pinion gear at the bearing, blew an 11 inch hole through the housing, broke off like 6 ring gear teeth and literally shattered a posi unit and stripped both axles, the 10 bolt is a pos on a almsot stock 96z28 with 116k miles doing a lil heating of the tires, even if it was at 4k

If you're daily driving then the 10bolt is just fine for over 400rwhp.

Just as long as your not doing 3k+ clutch drops everyday.

You could unplug two spark plug wires.

im in the same boat, ive got a 4.3/m6 s10 blazer.

im building a 7.625" rear end since ig got some good deals on ****. this is what i have on my to do list for my rear end.

richmond 4.56 gears ($100)
aburn posi unit (free)
trick flow cover ($133)
solid pinion bearing spacer (free)
all new bearings and seals (free)
welding axle tubes (10 bucks for high nickle rods)
axle tube brace kit (50 ish for materials)
for now im going to run stock 28 spline axles till i can find or work a deal on some moser axles.

everyone told me to find an 8.5 since ive got an s-seires but the freeking housing costs more then what i have into everything so far.

ive seen 10 bolts last into the 10's, then let go mid run and cause the car to wreck and flip end over end....

get a dana 60 from strange and be done.... dont get a shop to install it, do it yourself, its easy and well worth the work.

you will never have to worry about your rearend again....ever. rebuilding the 10 bolt, you'll always mess it up....no way can you make it stronger.

My 10-bolt lasted 15 minutes until it crapped out behind a set of ET Streets. Crunch!

Spending money on a 10-bolt is a horrible investment to say the least. It's like trying to add RAM to your old 133 MHz computer...

You can upgrade your axles if you want, but axles rarely break. It's the carrier/gear set that's the weak point.

Take some weight off the car that will help out alot ...I have run my 10 bolt and have had good luck . Then I always see post with alot of problems with them.So its a 50/50 gamble.
