So my question is, why do people tend to say (for my cam especially) that you need at least 4.30 gears to stay in the powerband.....and that 3.73's aren't enough gearing

They're probably reasoning that the 4.30's will get you back into the power band after the shift sooner than the 3.73's since you'll accelerate quicker (I would say also you'll accelerate past the power band sooner, but that's another debate ). Another consideration is where you end the 1/4 mile at (RPM's) in relation to where (RPM's) your setup (cam) makes peak power.

Most of my racing is street racing, so I'm just trying to extend my 4th gear to 143mph as much as I can

I'm sure I could shave a few tenths off with 4.30's instead of my 3.73's......especially since traction isn't an issue, and I'm crossing the traps about 800rpm's before my peak power.

Default Difference in RPM's after I shift between 3.73's & 4.30's

After looking at a gearing table, the table made it look like no matter what my gear ratio was, after every shift my rpm's would be about the same.

I thought for example with 3.73's, that if I spin the car to say 6800rpm in first, and shift to second gear I'd be at about 5000rpm's.

I would have assumed that with 4.30's when doing that same shift from 6800rpm's in first gear, I should then be closer to 5500rpm's in second gear.

Am I way off track? The chart I used didn't show this at all.

The difference between the gear ratios in your transmission control where the RPM will drop after a shift rather than the rear gear.
