Default Which driveshaft is stronger?

Currently have the stock steel shaft and am wondering if I should swap it out with something else. Thanks!

Its the yoke that will break first, not the Driveshaft itself. And I believe the Yokes are the same between the two.

I beg to differ. I don't know who thinks the aluminum one is stronger than the steel one but it's not. I've seen this happen lots of times.

HOT DAMN!

Yea i've seen that happen a few times. I'd have to go with steel though lol...either that or a heavy duty one, but they are usually $$$...

Another choice is the Spohn Extreme Duty Chrome Moly driveshaft. Just my opinion (and what I use).

Now that I think about it, a friend of mine had his shaft break before the yoke also. (stock LS1) (I'm an idiot)
I have just seen a lot of yokes break when people upgrade the shafts but not the yoke.

ive always been under the impression that the steel drive shaft is stronger but the aluminum drive shaft is lighter... and the cf one is strongest and lightest but really expensive

I was just curious since it seems everyone's upgrading from steel to aluminum mostly due to the unbalanced steel shafts, and the 1LE is lighter. I must be one of the lucky few that has a balanced steel shaft since I experience no shake at 80+ (although I do get a lil wheel shake occasionally, but I think that's due to me getting the weights on the inside of the rims).

But after seeing the pics in reply #3 and #4, I think I'm gonna stick with the stock steel if the steel is stronger than aluminum, and I do no experience issues with the stock shaft.

Denny's make a great steel driveshaft with an unlimited warranty. If you ever manage to break or bend it, they'll replace it for free.

seem many a stock al take a **** in m6 cars, but hold up decent in a4 cars. i ran my al and keep a stock steel one on hand at the track just in case.lol but it didnt **** at the track but rather on the way home from work in rush hour on a bridge no less. but it had help from the tq arm rapping around it.

That is precisely why I just bought a new Strange Cromoly one. I might not have all the HP in the world (440 RWHP) but I don't want this kinda crap happening.
