Default Axles bearing press rings.....

Do they actually stay on the axle? Or are they just to help press the bearing on... or both. No stupid questions right? I know when I go to press the bearings on it will be obvious.

Been a long time since I've done this-but when I worked at a machine shop we had thick plates on a vertical press with a cut out area that the axle could fit through. In other words we pushed the axle through the bearing, best I remember. You have to set it up so the force is on the portion of the bearing that fits the axle so as not to FUBAR the bearing.
To take 'em off we just used a torch.
Any kind of "sleeve" you use to push the bearing on would be larger than the axle and would not stay in place-not talking about any backing plates that need to be outboard between bearing and hub.
Hope this helps.

I assume you are doing a Moser rear. Just leave them on there.
