Default Which is Faster? Manual vs. Auto

I have seen alot in magazines and websites that the auto F-bodies are a hell of a lot quicker than the manuals because they can get out of the hole quicker. Do you guys find this to be true. I love manuals but if the general concensus says automatic, I guess my next F-body will be a auto with a 3600 stall converter on it

The auto cars are not any faster. It's just that the computer can shift an auto perfectly all the time.On the other hand, a person shifting a man trans can make mistakes.I've had both.A4 good for drag racing.M6 fun on the street.

Autos eat more power than manual trannties.

With an auto you may find the launch to be more consistent.

Much more consistency with an A4 off the line for many folks. A good converter will give you an advantage off the line for many drivers: a lot depends on driving skill/setups between otherwise two identical A4/M6 cars.
I drove sticks for years, but I'll stick with the A4 for my particular driving habits.

IMO the 6 speed (what i have) is a street warrior and the auto is the drag queen (just kidding, drag king). What do you do more of???

A4 is quicker.
M6 is faster.

Pick your poison.

All things being equal, an A4 will launch faster from a dead stop and an M6 will pull harder from a roll. So it depends on the type of driving you plan on doing.

Just so you know me and a buddy have similar Hawks and dyno similar crank numbers. We also clock identical trap speeds(~110) but he(an A4) is always about .2-.3 faster than me(an M6) on the ET side. You'll notice that a lot of A4 guys will evaluate their speed on 60s and ETs while the M6 guys concentrate mostly on trap speeds.

I'll have to side with Wilwaxu on this one. An automatic F-Body with a Yank Pro Thruster converter (4000-4600) with a lockup switch is nearly impossible for a manual to beat if the A4 racer has the gears and comparable power. The YPT 4000 converter multiplies torque for so long, where a stick car cannot. Once the manual car starts to gain groung, the A4 racer hits the lockup switch and maintains their lead. <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />
