gears are set up wrong, what did your pattern look like when you installed them??

what are your install specs, pinion shim, pinion pre-load, carrier bearing pre-load, ring gear back lash??

the main things in any ring and pinion job are:

pinion depth, pinion bearing pre-load(always use a new crush washer), carrier bearing pre-load, and back lash, do all this then check your pattern if it is good you should be fine as with no gear whine,, if the pattern is not good take it apart and make the changes to your pinion depth (re-set backlash) and yes another new crush washer

or you can leave the crush washer and pinion seal out till you get it all set up, then take it apart and use the crush washer and pinion seal on the final assembly

They are installed wrong. I have 4:10 gears and not one single noise since day one. But they were professionally installed.

The pre load was supposed to be at 25-30 inch pounds and we set it at 30 inch pounds.

The back lash could be .008-.010 and it was set at .009

We had left the pattern the same

Then we reused the axles bearings, the axles, and carrier with the spyder gears.

what does "we left the pattern the same" mean,,, when you used the gear marking compound and ran the pattern was it good or bad??

what brand are the gears? My Richmond 3.73s were real noisy. And i have heard that all richmonds are supposed to be noisy.

Either you are running Richmonds, which in that case the whine is normal. Or most likely they aren't installed right.

I figured it out it was the spacers on the pinion they weren't set right on the ring. So we had to add more but we are doing it tommarrow because we need to order a new crush collar. Im 90% shure thats what it is. Let me know what u think.

Thanks
