Default what happened to 3rd gear!

Just had the A-4 rebuilt with heavy duty peices. I'm also running the SY3500 along with this. It's been one month and not even 500 miles on the rebuild. I made sure to drive the car carefully for about 200 miles before I started with the heavy driving. Today, I'm hitting the back roads 'cause I just put in the SLP 85mm MAF. All of a sudden, going WOT up a hill, the car seems to shift into third and suddenly revs to the moon! I immediatley let off the gas and the car feels like it clunks into third. After that when it feels like the car shifts into third it will just rev and the car goes nowhere. I had to drive the car home in 2nd. The tranny fluid does smell a bit burnt but the color is still clean. I hope this isn't it but could it possibly be that the converter, when reinstalled did not engage the fluid pump completely?? Please give opinions. (other than my tranny guy being a schmuk)

I'm assuming the 85mm MAF is a calibrated piece so doesn't result in incorrect MAF load readings
like a ported stock MAF.

Given that,
Tranny guy is a shmuck.

3-4 clutch pack is toast.

Figures. goes my head. The guy was recommended by a couple of speed shops in the area and he had rebuilt my buddy's 4L60E in his '95 Formula, so I didn't feel the need to worry about it. I found out when I picked the car up that he uses another shop to reinstall the trannies when he is done rebuilding them. Now I wonder if that guy may have been the ignorant one. Either way, this Ron guy has a good reputation for standing behind his work. But we'll see what happens on Monday. Expect the worst but hope for the best.

Well, it happened. I called Ron at Performance Transmission in Mountville, PA about the clutches that went out. His very first response was "So what do you want me to do about it?" Oh yeah baby! It went very straight downhill from there. Basically he sees no reason to replace the clutches free of charge. Ron at Performance Transmission in Mountville, PA sees no reason to even split the cost of new parts(would you guys feel that you should pay for new clutches?) And he tried to sell me all kinds of "electronics" that he says I have to get now. He accused me of "beating" on the car and was absolutely postive that it was the converter causing slippage in the transmission.

When I told him that the car had 50,000 miles on it before the converter and almost 10,000 miles after the converter while still on the original clutches, he shut up a little. I mean after all Ron at Performance Transmission in Mountville,PA's handywork took a dump after less than 500 miles. Plus I had to drive carefully because of the rattling noise that was now coming from under the car.

So I didn't even really start driving the car untill after the noise was fixed and the oil changed last Friday (same day the tranny went.)

Then Ron, at Performance Transmission in Mountville, PA tried to tell me about how the converter wasn't locking up on the highway and that was actually the problem.
"The converter needs to spin at a 1:1 rotio on the highway. When the rpm's shoot up it is not locked Hyuk."

When I had to explain to Ron, at ..well, you know where, about how the converter did exactly turn at a 1:1 ratio on the highway he once again had to shut up a little. THEN, he went right back to the electronics. Again.

SO, Ron, at Performance Transmission, in Mountville, PA is expecting me to bring the car back and pay for a lot more work at no discount at all? Riiight!

I called Chesapeake Transmission and spoke with James. He had a good laugh about this guy. Needless to say, guess where the tranny is going next Friday? I should have gone there to begin with, but, I had alot of people around here tell me that Ron, at Performance Transmission in Mountville, PA was a good guy. Well, I guess you get what you pay for. People that demand cash under the table tend to give you sleezy work.

sorry about the long post just had to rant. this whole fiasco is probably going to cost me almost 3 grand.
