4.10 Gears I have a 2000 Trans Am with ram air package, and i am planning on installing 4.10 gears in the next couple of months. I have heard that my stock driveshaft is pretty weak and was wondering if i should get a new one. If so, feel free to make any suggestions as to what brand. If not, should i at least get a driveshaft safety loop in case it does break? One other question, are there an suspension modifications that i should make on the stock suspension? I am installing these gears mainly for street purposes because i do live in the country and sometimes you just wanna get on it. I do plan on taking it to the strip sometime. Please feel free to make any suggestions.

Re: 4.10 Gears well jimmy, i dont know about the drive shaft being weak,i ran 11.71 (new best time) on my 2001 m6 shaft.you will love the 4.10's they pull fast and hard. you may want to look for better tires, the new gears will make you spin worse then the stock ones. you will need to stop any wheel hop this can break the rear (so can drag tires).get a rear cover,pan hard rod,lower cont.arms and a tq arm. a safety loop is GREAT but your rearend should be your biggest worry.i broke two before going to the 12 bolt. Re: 4.10 Gears Thanks for the suggestions. Mike C., what was the total price it cost to get that 12 bolt of yours and what is the brand? Also another quick question, did the 4.10 kill your top end like most people say they do? I mean can you still hit like 120mph or so.

Re: 4.10 Gears the rear i have is the moser 12bolt w/4.10's. i bought it from speed inc,in illinois.they gave it to me for 2,300 that price also included my head bolts and gaskets. top speed, well i have went to 130 mph but have not tried more yet. the 4.10's will make your car feel 250 lbs lighter. good luck to ya my friend.

Re: 4.10 Gears Thanks Mike C., i was glad to here that you were able to hit those speeds with those 4.10 gears. I think i am gonna try just the gears for now b/c i will be driving on the road mainly. I probably won't go to the track any time soon. One question though, what is a really good brand of gears. I was thinking about motive gears or strange gears. I heard richmonds were noisy but feel free to correct me if i am wrong. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

Re: 4.10 Gears jimmy, richmond gears are noisy,atleast mine was. as far as the brand of gears, well i want to give you helpful advice,not bullshit you.i dont know what gears motive or strange would be better.my moser came with the gears allready in them.i wish i could help more on this one.
