ive said this to people too many times ....the brand of gear has nothing to do with noise...its the tech installin the gear....

not enough bearing preload...unless a gear is straight cut it is not supposed to make noise....

When I had 4.10's installed on my stock 10-bolt, they didn't whine at all. It took a few hard launches at the track then they started making noise. Sometimes it takes a couple of passes to wake them up.
I have Motive 3.90's....they don't howl like my buddy's Richmond's do, however I do have a little whine at around 70 mph. The whine is bad enough that the girlfriend and I don't take the SS on long trips anymore. If it's just me in the car, I really don't care that much because with the radio blaring and the cutout open, a little gear whine is my last concern.

Richmonds are quiet if you find someone who knows what they are doing to install them. I have richmond 3.73's in my camaro and had them put in by a guy that has been doing rear ends for over 20 years. They don't whine. Period.
ive NEVER had a set that was quoet in my 10 bolt, my 12 bolt was BAD from moser, got a guy to setup a richmond gear set, then i hated them so i put some US gears from Moser and set them up and were quiet as a mouse... then the posi broke. ordered a 9in and did the 2 minute break in and 10 minute drive and cool like Moser recomended ... one hard launch and rowing through gears with the Mcleod and bam gear whine...bad... AGAIN!
I had 4.10 gm motives in my 97 ta. Quiet super quiet. Then put them in my 99 ta.Horrible whining. Not sure what was up. Checked and rechecked. Put in richmond 3.73 after that. Even more horrible than the 4.10s. They say they are stronger but guy that got them off me put them in his wifes paxon lt1 and they didn't make even one pass at the quarter on et streets.Richmond suck!
I went back to factory 3.42 and very quiet again. I am going to strange rear end dana 60 and see how that goes.if they are noise they go to like factory dana 60 gears should be able to get them quiet if do that.
Best bet is actual gm gears. Pricey but should be very quiet. These rear ends are crap though and more you track them likely the noisier they are going to get no matter who sets them up.

FWIW, I just put some Summit brand 410's ($150) in my 10 bolt this past weekend. Since it is/was an experiment with a 2 series carrier in my car, I didn't want to spend anymore cash than need be.

I have richmond 3.73's in my el camino 10 bolt, they never made a noise, even after i completely rebuilt the rearend. Ive never been in a car that you could hear the rear in, is there a video or sound clip somewhere that i can hear what "noisy gears" are?
