Default Old school tranny question

Can any of you LS1 tech guys answer this?
I have a 1968 Camaro that has been in storage for a few years. Before it was stored the only problem with the car was the tranny ( 2 speed powerglide). My father bought a shop manual and over hauled the transmission and replaced the torque converter. Now when we tried to test drive it, the car went into reverse perfectly, but when we put it into drive it was like going into neutral. The car literally started rolling backwards. Also you know how when you shift into drive w/o giving any gas, the RPMs will drop? It didn't do it. Literally drive became neutral, unfortunately neutral was still neutral. Can you guys think of anything that would have caused this? We did a complete overhaul on the tranny, I am not a tranny mechanic at all so I have no idea. Do I have to pull it from the car and start over again?

I am ready to get this project moving again and this is my first little goal.

Did the trans work before it was stored if not it sounds like you have no fluid pressure to the high gear clutch pack this is usually caused by a broken sealing ring on the front pump assembly or too much high gear clutch pack clearance.does it have low gear.

No it didn't work before it was stored, no it has no low gear. We did a complete overhaul on it. I mean basically everything in the case is new so I am confused.

Well, I've got a Powerglide vehicle and I've rebuilt a
TH350 but never had a 'glide apart. If you've got
reverse, then I believe you must have pump pressure
and a functional shifter. That leaves something in
the forward apply as your likely problem.

You might get her up on stands and work the selector
fron underneath, just in case it's just something like
a linkage adjust problem, sitting between detents etc.
If not then I guess it's time to wonder about whether
you should just go get a built TH200R-4 with the
universal bolt pattern. Why you'd put a 2-speed back
in, aside from nostalgia, I couldn't guess.

Alright it has only reverse 1st you will need to remove pan make sure the linkage shifter arm is not cracked right around where it is bolted to the arm that goes to outside trans. their is a guide plate that will have to be removed to see this the linkage controls are bad about cracking and then they slip. also make sure it is working the spool valve in the trans. If this checks out you will have no other choice but pull trans out and go completely thru it.Hope this helps and good luck.

I had a 700R-4 fail to shift through the gears once. I dropped the pan and smacked the valve body with a pice of wood and hammer. Problem fixed. Hmmm.. could that have been a stuck valve?

What tranny shop do you work for? HA HA.. The answer is yes. More than likely it was the governer valve which is not in the valve body. It is amazing that the hammer and wood did the trick.

None. I just figured I would do a little calibration on it.

I now realize that the four years that I spent in engineering school have been a waste. I just need a piece of wood and a hammer.
