how to paint the rearend??

how to paint the rearend?? Well, my gears got put on the wrong UPS truck so they won't be here til Tuesday on account of the holiday. I got the whole rearend off just sittin there. I got to thinkin how NASTY it looks. I would like to paint it. Any tips/advice?? Other than a good cleaning of all the dirt and stuff what should I do??
I just want some flat black or something low visibility.

If its an old rear, its got scaley rust and **** on it, Id try a air hose to get the loose stuff, maybe a wire wheel attatchment and get that thing to bear metal, or a portable sand blaster. then you need to clean the surface, they have stuff called prep all, very stringent, takes all the fine meterial off ad leaves a clean surface. Then at that point, primer it, do a couple coats, scuff it up, spray it with black paint, a couple coats, maybe more.
If its a new rear like a moser, sand paper to get any surface rust off, and get the surface prepped and its pretty much the same proceedure as before.

I washed (degreased) mine, then I bought a quart of Rust Bullet chassis paint (competitor to POR-15) from a racing supply store in the Reno area. You only need the pint sized can though, which is mucho cheaper.
After applying two coats to the rear, plus painting my front spindles and both sway bars, I still have more than a pint left over! Stuff works waaaaaaaaaaay better than Rustolem or other typical metal paints.

I like POR-15, but from the looks of your timetable, I don't think you'll be able to get any in enough time since you will have to order it online. Unless you want to wait a while...
Otherwise, I've also had good luck with rattle-cans...the VHT engine paint has worked well for me.
