Default Freeway Flyer Gears

Just about ready to have this thing put together. It's not an LS1 but it is a Chevy with lots of power.

It's a 1975 vette with a EFI 540 BBC w/AFR 315heads, converting to solid rear axle and should be between 700-750 hp with a 4L80E and Nitto drag radials.

I want to cruise at low rpm on the freeway so I've been thinking about using 2.94 gears. I'm only driving on the street and figure it should have plenty of power to pull at low speed.

Anyone with lots of power running freeway flyer gears that's got any advice for me.

Id run the gear calculator.

http://www.f-body.org/gears/

this would give you the best idea of where you want to be at your desired cruise RPM

well, I've only got about 320 rwhp and the LS1 engine. With my 3.73 rear end, I knock down 28+ mpg highway. . .thats cruising 80 with only 1750 RPM

Hp is just going to dictate how quick your going to get there. RPM and MPH are reletive to everything. Most people really dont want to be spinning above 2k rpms + 70mph. That waste gas and puts undue wear on the motor. 4.11's(moser 12 bolt)/4.10's(gm 10 bolt) will do just that. Otherwise people increase the tire diameter to compensate.

The tire chng is mostly for the track since people with alot of power run out of gear in 4th but again gives you more mph per gear.
