Default Tru-Trac or Eaton?

I'm am putting 4.10s and a new diff in my car very shortly,. but I cant decide on which brand of parts to go with. I can get a nice little package from thunderracing.com with an eaton diff. But someone said Tru-tracs are better. My car is a DD and sees very little track time. mods (the few that are done) are in sig.

I loved my tru-trac when I had my 10 bolt. Tried Eaton but shattered it after 1000 miles and that wasn't out of the hole.

go with the tru trac, you won't regret it over the eaton.

Everyone says Tru Trac is better, but sorry to inform everyone, they CAN break. I just spent 650$ for a new diff. Since they are SEALED units they are UN-Servicable, which means when you break it, its broken. Also you cant really tell what failed in the unit.

Mine was always locked up after a burnout wheel hop incident. The day before it got worked on the stopped making the horrible noise and locking up, but that doesnt mean it cant come back.

I have 2 local cars, ones is a 383, 200 shot, on a th400 and Eaton HD unit, runs fine, cuts nice 60 foots and the other is a all motor 402 on a th400 and trans brake, and eaton HD unit. Both work fine, neither need replacing.

Just do your research, oh and also if you want to switch later on you need new axles

OK. So where can I get a package deal that has gears and a Tru-Trac diff? Also, will I need new axles for either one Blackscreaminmachine? If so, how many spline?

The splines are the same, its how its cut for the diff. Moser has some decent prices or use the board sponsor, get them a address that takes freight shipping, its cheapest over all.

My new tru trac works fine, as fine as the old one did, I just want to point out they are not indestructible.

I'm not THAT concerned about them being "indestructible". My car is nearly stock and sees very little drag strip time.
And sorry if I'm still not getting it, but if I get an Eaton unit, will I need new axles?

The original company no longer makes the tru-trac, Eaton does, when I did my research apprently eaton made a few updates to the orignal product, which I had an original circa April 2005, I still have the diff tag.

Moser is normally 33degree pressure angle on the splines, for a true track moser cut's a 45degree pressure angle on the axles that strange also uses on all their axles. The axles cut for a truetrac will work with a strange diff but its a little loose.

Now to the original question.

YES the trutrac works. till it breaks.

YES there is no product support if you break it, you are on your own and you will have to replace entire unit.

YES there are better choices when you weigh all the options.

Sorry I read black sreaming machines post in thread stock 10 bolt 28 spline all work depending on abs.

The issue I have with trutrac is when you break it your done.
Eaton makes both the trutrac and eaton posi if you break either you are on your own but at least the posi is servicable.

If you break or wear out an aubern they have an exchange program that eaton does not have. I think there is a lot more support from aubern.

good to know. thank you. I do have a friend with a 1968 mustang. he recently put 3:55 gears and an Auburn posi unit. However he barely EVER drives that car, so i cant really use that as an example for which differential to go with. I think I may just go with the Eaton. It seems like not being able to repair the Tru-Trac's sealed self will be a big PITA if I were to blow it up. I'm only pushing 326rwhp right now (basically stock). I never plan on getting any lower time than a low 12 in the quarter. I think the Eaton should be fine.... right?

No experience with 10 bolt eaton, but i am currently using a strange hd (eaton case us gear internals) 12 bolt and auburn in 10 bolt 8.5, also have several friends using eaton posi's in 12 bolt m6 with no issues.

I have a HD Eaton in a Moser 12 bolt, my car is a daily driver, seldom launched hard. I have over 30k miles on it so far with no issues.

I broke the spider gears in my eaton, the best 60' I have had with it is a 1.9 so it's not like a hard launch broke it. Now I have an Auburn Racers differential in my car. Oh yeah, the bias ratio of the true trac isn't that much of an improvement over the OEM torsen differential.
