Came across an interesting article on the choice of clutches for our 6 speeds.

Isn't that article based on a LT1 F-body? If it is, that doesn't relate to our Ls1s at all. The Lt1 is completely different clutch/trans set-up then the Ls1. My friend has a 1996 CE Vette Lt4 with M6. Its got ported heads, and Lt4 hot cam, 4.10s, and headers. He has a SPEC stage 2 kevlar clutch and loves it, but its not a Ls1 design is it. I have heard nothing but problems from the Ls1 stage 2 kevlar SPEC clutches. Maybe their new design is ok but their old stage 2s and 3s were a roll-the-dice chance! Luckily the stage 3 carbon I used to have in my 99 SS (now resides in my 00 WS6) is holding up. It took 5-6 4000-5000 RPM clutch dumps on ET streets with 15-20PSI, but only nets 2.0 60fts(may have been slipping?????). I was really shocked that the stock 10 bolt didn't break. Just to bad the stock HP of the WS6 couldn't power out of the traction. Once the tires hooked the car just bogged!

Well now, correct me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't the C4 Corvette M6 different from what's been in the F-bodies?

As I recall, the C4 used either a Getrag or a ZF 6-speed, while the fourth-gen F-bodies had the Tremec (nee Borg-Warner) T56 from day one. Both had the 1-4 skipshift as prescribed by Genuine Motors; but otherwise, I was under the impression that they were entirely different units, and that the T56's more satisfactory operation prodded Dave Hill and the C5 engineering team to adapt it to the transaxle of the latest 'Vette.

And seeing that fourth-gen F-bods have always had the T56, I would guess (hope, anyway) that the clutches were the same, by and large.

Can anyone straighten this out?

Yes you are correct, the C-4 M6's had the ZF-6 speeds, which is totally different from the T-56's actually, i would rather have a ZF in my car, those things were like indestructible, and ran great, only problem is that whole size/offset problem that the stick sits a few inches to the passenger side, requireing cutting, modding, and the whole fact that they won't bolt up to an LS1, i'm thinking about doing a conversion, but dread the work involved, i've got my hands in enough cookie jars right now.

Would be cool though!!!!

aka 99mongoose, I do know the LT1 and LS1 clutches are a completely different set-up in both the C4, C5, and f-bodys

Correct, the LT1's had a 'pull style' clutch where the LS1 uses a conventional push style.
