Going from 2.73 to 3.73...what to expect???

4th gear is an actual 4th gear and is considered to be the Overdrive gear. you can tune for WOT 3-4 shifts but do that a handfull of times and be ready for a rebuild.. 3-4 band is very weak in these cars and was not deigned for WOT shifting.

Torque converter lockup is not another gear. Lockup is when the converter locks the input and output of the converter to a 1:1 ratio so it doesn't slip at all. Which can feel like another gear especially with a high rpm stall speed converter but its still not another gear. It will never lock at WOT and never stay locked during a shift (unless its tuned for it). Locking at WOT or in a shift can destroy the converters lockup clutch.

I've never tried to go WOT through the 3-4. I like my license to omuch to go triple digit speeds on public roads. Even with the FLT trans I have I doubt it will hold up long. I know mine is tuned for a "lift to Shift" 3-4 just by looking at my tune.. it won't shift into 4th unless I am at less than 50% throttle.

so a stock tuned car, with this shifting thing, will it shift into that 4th gear, or do i have to get it tuned to do it. I dont plan on going wot that many times over 110 mph, im just wondering what everyone else does who has 3.73's, A few times however, blasting to 150 + is just too fun to avoid.

So, basically if you floor your car with the 3.73's you will hit the redline of 3rd gear, and you wont shift? even thought you might only be going 115 mph?

Another thing to consider is that the preformance 3.23 rear i belive is still rated to 155 mph (like the ws6 top speed is 155 as well), but that would require a 3-4 shift, because at 155 mph with a 2.73 gear your at 6100, so, with a 3.23 even with the 1 inch bigger rim, you would still need to have another gear to get to that speed.

In my car yes. I'd have to lift off the throttle to get it to shift into 4th. the car will go faster than 115 for sure.. just in my car I'll have to back off the throttle to get it to shift into 4th.. it helps save the trans that is all which I like because I have $2000 of trans and $650 of converter in my car.

I just looked at the stock tune and it looks like it will do WOT straight into 4th.

you have been a huge help man, tks so much. If i ever need help with codes im askin you cuz you seem to know whats good. Such as how to remove the speed limiter off, with 3.73's ill be redline limited to like 165, so why have a limiter at 155.

Its no problem man. haha... Speed limiter is all in the PCM tune. Easy to change with tuning software. I set my speed limiter to 256 mph which is basically disabling it although I doubt I'll see past 130 anyhow.

only 113mph in 3rd, get real, I have a A4 car and with the stock TC and 4.10 gears it would go 112 at about 6000-6200rpm, but now I have 3.23 and a tight 3500 stall and it will put to about 147-148 @ 6300-6400 before OD, I think I am going to go with 3.73 to gain some MPH and get more freeway pulling.
