Default Break in period for gears

Here soon I am going to be putting some 3:73's into my car and I was just wondering what is a good break in period before I take her to the track? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Everything Iv'e read says at least 500 miles. I put around 1000 before I went to track. So far so good on my 4.10's. After 3000 miles & several
trips to track,no problems, other than a little "whine". About 30 runs on gears.

I have heard you need to heat cycle them 3 times before running them hard. Thats what I did and mine are great.

I always heard to drive it easy for a few miles and park it for a few minutes to cool off two or three times. This will keep them from getting too hot. Just my $.02

Here's what I do with new gears.

1st drive around 10 miles then let it completely cool down, do this 2 more times(total 30 miles) then change the fluid. The gears supposedly have a phosphate(?) coating on them which the 3 10 miles drives burn off. With the new fluid in drive it easy for another 470 miles then have at it at the track. My 3.42's don't whine a bit with many low 1.5 passes on them

I managed to put 100 miles on my 3.73's before launching on them. I was impressed that I made it that long. I've done 500-mile break-ins in the past, and it didn't help any with gear whine. They all started to whine after a few hard launches at the track. My 3.73's whine the worst around 60 MPH. Anything slower or faster, and they're completely quiet. That's my excuse for speeding. I did have a set of 3.42's installed in my '98 T/A back in '99, and I put a whopping 25 miles on them before taking it to the track. These gears were silent the entire time I had the rearend. I think it was just from a great setup. I can guarantee that if I ever buy a 12-bolt that I'll buy it unassembled. The Moser rearends are ridiculously loud when setup by Moser!
