I can't comment on the efficiency of the TCI 4400, but I can give you an idea of how hard it hits. At the Thunder Shootout, my friends John & Kristi Payne were there with their '02 SS with stock internals, 3.73's, all the bolt-ons, and a TCI 4400. The car weighed in at just over 3,570# with driver, and my cammed car weighed in right around 3,530# all day (depending on fuel). With my PT4400 and 3.73's, my best 60' of the day was a 1.529. Kristi and John's best of the day with their car was a 1.53. Their heavier, stock-internal car was averaging the same 60' times as my slightly lighter, cammed car. I was amazed! Like I said, I don't know how efficient the converter is, but it definitely hits hard! Their car was running 12.1's all day, and it would've clicked off a high 12.0x ET if Kristi didn't get on the brakes on the top-end (running brackets). They're a free ram air away from 11's.

Default Needing a Performance Comparison between the TCI 4400 and the YTP4400

Okay first things first, I dont intend for this to be a TCI vs Yank war thread. I just wanted to know how these converters lined up to each other in the performance category.

Im going to be running the TR230 Cam with 3.73s. I want to know if you honestly think there will be any difference between these two as far as performance at the track.

Also I know that the YTP 4400 is known for keeping us A4 guys up to par with the M6 guys from a roll. What exactly makes this converter perform better from a roll. Should the TCI 4400 have the same aggresive rolling power as the YTP 4400. I have been locking my ST3500 which I have currently at 76 mph, so I will probably be locking this converter around the same.

I just need some general information because I can't make a decision on which one. I know that the YTP 4400 is a proven performer, but I just cant get past the nice price tag on the TCI converters.

All help would be appreciated. I just need performance information. Please dont start the Exposed replies. Im just looking at performance.

Thanks

There are not enough people running the TCI 4400 converters to give you a good comparison, but here's what I know: The TCI 4400 converter that I saw, had the same pump (#7) and stator (GM #082) that is used in the Vigilante 3600. Since the internal components are very similar, you might get some of the guys to chime in who've run the Vig 3600s. Many have swapped from Vig 3600s to YPT4400s.

Once you lock-up the converter, you are eliminating efficency as a variable, assuming you hit the optimum spot. That would leave midrange torque multiplication as the remaining variable.

I assume you have track tested the lock-up point. Lock-up too early and you lose torque multiplication and/or drop too far in the power band. Too late and you leave HP on the table.

The TCI does sound really tempting. The only thing I wonder is how the roll power on the 4400 TCI would be. I like to do a few roll races every now and then. Of course I lock up my converter at 76 mph via LS1 edit. So basically above that wouldnt matter too much anyways since the converter is locked.

If anyone has any information on how the TCI 4400 performs from a roll please let me know..
